I shot a 3-day evangelical conference for the Hispanic Ministries of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Some of my shots will be in the upcoming issue of Visitor Magazine that is running an article on this event.

I shot a 3-day evangelical conference for the Hispanic Ministries of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Some of my shots will be in the upcoming issue of Visitor Magazine that is running an article on this event.

I wanted to post a few pictures from this event. Usually at an event you will have shot list containing key speakers, performances, key guests, key moments, etc… that need to be recorded. While making sure you get all that, don’t be so consumed that you forget to look around and see what else there is. I made a large group shot and some panoramas from the floor, but I am always looking for an overhead shot. I love finding a vantage point that will show the size of a crowd.

I also love thinking about what could happen and what that means for a potential shot. There were over a thousand LED candles ready to be handed out. You can only guess what that is going to mean! Lights out! (Even if it doesn’t mean lights out, F/22 can mean lights out just as well!) I had been thinking of ways to capture the look of a sea of candles in different ways. I took many variations and looks of the candles once they lit, but these are two I really like. I desaturated one trying to make the pinpoints of light really take center stage.

<! -- candles group -->

This next photo was a tight zoom up close to really make the candle stand out against the glowing out of focus candles.

Previsualize. Imagine what might come, and what the shot might look like. Create the shot in your head and be ready for the moment. At the same time be ready for whatever else may come or new opportunities. Don’t be so fixed on your idea that you ignore other fantastic possibilities. And of course, don’t be afraid to try something new. You never know…you just might be on to something awesome!

I spent a few days shooting A Dios Sea La Gloria, an annual event held by the SDA Potomac Conference. There were inspirational sermons and wonderful music nonstop! Very awesome people. I definitely made a few new friends!

Flameless Candles!!! I know these have become popular as of late. (I think we own the entire line from this brand in my home… Candle Impressions) This is the awesomest application of these I have seen yet! The pastors distributed little flameless candles to everyone. I usually have to be mindful of my hair when everyone around me is holding candles at events. Not this time!
